It's not my Fault You'll Never be Happy

Best of me - A Day to Remember

"I can't believe you got the best of me.
I can't believe I trusted every word you said.
Stretched myself out way too far,
Now I can see you for who you are."

I don't usually keep up with celebrity gossip or news of any kind. A Day to Remember is my favorite band though, so I decided to read into their lawsuit against Victory Records. Basically, Victory Records is saying ADTR needs to fulfill their contract of five albums through Victory Records. ADTR is claiming that because of the vague definition of an album in the contract, they have already fulfilled their contract. This lawsuit was occuring during the making of their newest album, Common Courtesy. Although a final court ruling has not yet been determined, the court ruled that A Day to Remember could independently release their album.

All That's Left is Misunderstandings

While all that may not be interesting, it brings me to my point. Their song, Best Of Me, was written abut Victory Records. It could easily be mistaken as a love song, "My dad was right, we will never get along." Record Labels always ask for certain things, certain songs or lyrics but the thing that makes A Day to Remember unique is the fact that they don't listen. A Day to Remember loves their fans, (I mean, how could they not? We are the shit) but they write music about what they want, not what we want. So many bands break up, but maybe it's because they try to make everyone else happy instead of themselves.

You Only Learn From What you Lost

If I was Victory Records, I would be super sad that ADTR doesn't want to stay with me. A Day to Remember is the biggest band that Victory Records has ever had. On the other hand, fuck you ADTR for this song. "What a mess you've made," what does that mean? Victory Records has helped them a lot with becoming so popular. They have talent though, they are a great band and any record label would have made them just as successful. Victory Records owes ADTR over $75,000 in royalties. With so much success, it seems like Victory Records could cough up that much money. "This is the last time you'll ever burden me," I hope  ADTR really does win the lawsuit and break away from these assholes. When they first went to court to get away from Victory Records they said they wanted to switch to a major record label. According to recent interviews, they don't know anymore and with all the success of their independently released album, they should stay independent. They also should get laid a lot. They are great.
