Help is on the Way - Rise Against
"Five thousand feet below, as black smoke engulfs the sky, the ocean floor explodes"
I don't keep up with things going on around the world, like apparently a plane went missing awhile back and I have no idea anything about that or why it's even a big deal. I think a lot of my problem with the news, is that it is just depressing, I don't know why you would really want to hear about any of the horrible things going on. Rise Against is a very active band in society so they keep up with all that kind of stuff, then they write songs about it. This song is about the oil spill in the Gulf - which I only have heard about because of this song but it is my favorite song by them. It has great lyrics, just like all of Rise Against's songs.
A Burning Lullaby
Like most of the music I listen to, this song always puts me in an upbeat mood, something that I can sing along to. I just recently watched the video, and came to the realization just how sad this song is. It's really fucked up. If I actually cared about people, I would probably cry from it. If you haven't seen the music video, it is like a mini movie so you should check it out, it makes the song a lot more intense. Over and over again in the lyrics they keep singing "help is on the way," and then "but it never came." After media lost interest in the oil spill story, helping in the tragedy was much less important. "Can nobody save us, will anyone try?"
Eleven Mothers Cry
People die all the time, literally every second. That's not sad. What's sad is the story behind the person. That's why when you hear the song, it's not particularly sad, but when you watch the video and really know the story, its heartbreaking. Especially since people really did die, hence the lyrics "eleven mothers cry." On a more cheery note, South Park did an episode on BP oil spills. It's pretty funny. Maybe just to me though, some people don't appreciate laughing at tragedies but that it what South Park is all about.
