I Hope You'll Find Your Own Way When I'm Not With You Tonight

FICTION-AVENGED SEVENFOLD

"Not that I could,
Or that I would,
Let it burn under my skin,
Let it burn"

NOW I THINK I UNDERSTAND HOW THIS WORLD CAN OVERCOME A MAN

This world is so god damn hard. I don't understand how people can make it through the day. Although I've had a shitty hard life, a lot of people have it so much worse off than I ever have. I may sound like everyone else, but life does get easier. It may seem like a huge issue at the time, but a few weeks, a few months, and especially years from now, it'll all just be a little speck in your memory. You can make it through the day. If you or anyone ever needs someone to talk to about suicide, please call the National Suicide Prevention Helpline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

HEARD THERE'S PEACE JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE

This song is so god damn eerie. I get chills every time. Even "Zacky Vengeance posted on the official Avenged Sevenfold Twitter on April 17, 2010: 'Tracking is complete. There are no words that will ever describe the feeling of listening to this album while driving home alone at 4 am.'" The song was written by the drummer, The Rev, just three days before he died. When he handed it in, he said, "That's it, that's the last song for this record." It's especially creepy because the song was originally titled "Death," but The Rev later changed it to his nickname, "Fiction." In the song, lyrics such as the one listed above, "Found a place for me to rest my head," "Left this life to set me free," "All this hurt can  finally fade," and so on seem too spot on to sound coincidental. But the autopsy found that it was an accidental overdose of medicine mixed with his already problematic heart condition, not necessarily suicide. I do believe he knew he was going to die soon, though. He left behind his parents, his two sisters, and a wife. Although he may be physically gone, his spirit will live on.

OTHER REASONS TO LOVE THIS SONG

  • The members kept The Rev's demo vocals on the finished track as a tribute to him.
  • This is the only Avenged Sevenfold song to have no guitar
  • In 2010, The Rev was nominated and won the Gold God Awards for Best Drummer on the Album "Nightmare." Since he was unable to accept his award, his family members accepted it on his behalf.
So go grab a box of tissues, put your headphones in, and prepare to cry your eyes out.
