Top Nine Rise Against Lyrics

Rise Against is one of my favorite bands, with some of the most amazing lyrics.They write songs that are inspirational but sometimes controversial. Here are a few of my lyrics from their songs. Enjoy!

#9. "A hero of war, is that what they see, just medals and scars, so damn proud of me" - Hero of war

Military people are often put on a pedestal. Not that this is bad, but their actual feelings or possible traumas are often over looked by a majority of people. They are than only seen as military people, "just medals and scars," whereas they should be seen as an individual.

#8. "If we just took a step back, a bigger picture we might view. Perhaps the man in the gutter is not so different from you" - Disparity by Design

If you don't know someones story, there is no way for you to know if they are just like you. Get to know people, especially before making judgements. You never know the people you might meet, if you just give them a chance. This is an idea Rise Against repeats through all of their music.

#7. "Is this the life that you lead or the life that's led for you?" - Paper wings

It's optional for you to lead your own life, some people go through their life only doing what life throws at them. If you have dreams, aspirations, it's something you have to work towards, you have to lead your own life. Take control, do what you want to do.

#6. "When hope is nonexistent our instincts all scream run,we never turn our backs or even bite our tongues" - Behind closed doors

Hope is what keeps people going. Hope for a better life, or for the continuation of the perfect life. When there is no hope, people give up without a second thought. Hope should never be nonexistent, for each person is the only one that can create his/her own hope and therefore happiness. 

#5. "Smash what you see, and lets restart cuz mirrors cant see our hearts" - Broken mirrors

Do what makes you happy, and ignore the things you see in the mirror. Mirrors are terrible for self confidence and don't let people truly thrive. Mirrors can't see your happiness, or any of your feelings for that matter. Challenge yourself to a period without looking in the mirror. 

#4. "I don't understand where you got this idea, so deeply ingrained in your head (that this world) is something that you must impress, cause I couldn't care less" - Black masks & Gasoline

 To try to please everyone is an exhausting task. Don't ever try to impress anyone, especially if it means not being yourself. Be who you are, and don't waste your time thinking about what everyone thinks. Parents should teach children to stand out, not to fit in. 

#3. "Too much blood has flown from the wrists of the children shamed for those they chose to kiss" - Make it stop (Septembers Children)

A song about the suicides of gay teenagers in September, 2010. A somewhat controversial topic, but a well written and inspiring song. Everyone in the world needs to be less judgmental, and realize that all the bullying and ridicule that teenagers, especially gay teenagers, put up cause an unnecessarily high suicide rate. We're all just people, and shouldn't be pushed by other people to the point of suicide.

Scars tell a story, they are like tattoos but they usually are accidental so you don't get an option which means they tell a more realistic story than a tattoo would. Most people try to hide a lot of scars, they are a story that you are not ready to tell. If everyone would openly show each other their scars, we would have a better understanding of everyone.

With all the terrible things in the world, it's a fair assumption that life has been unfair to each individual. It's how each person handles it that makes them who they are. This is an idea that has been said many times, in many different ways but for a song to actually have a good meaning, isn't exactly common nowadays.
